My Reason Why

I don’t want my music to just be about me.

I want it to reach people, give something back, and remind a person who feels trapped that the world is bigger than the place where they started.

I grew up in a small town, and I always wanted to be a singer. But that dream felt impossible. It seemed like there were only a few paths available, and music wasn’t one of them.

This was a season of my life when I felt lost. I struggled with depression, looked for an escape in the wrong places, experienced an abusive relationship, and made decisions I wish I could take back.

For a long time, I believed my mistakes defined me.

Today, my relationship with God is stronger than ever, and I’ve learned that the moments we feel most broken are often the moments we most need people willing to stand beside us.

I’m Alexandra Fresquez, and this is my fundraising campaign.

How I Got Here

I’ve watched talented people from my hometown become trapped by that same feeling: that the world was small and there was nowhere else to go.

Some turned to drugs. Some went to jail. Some stopped believing there was a future available to them.

I don’t want another kid to feel that way.

Music has already taken me further than I once thought possible. I’ve performed during an NBA halftime show, at the New Mexico Hip Hop Awards, the Lensic Theatre, in New York and Los Angeles, and at One Oak in Dubai.

Outside of music, I’m a nurse. I’ve seen how quickly life can change when someone is struggling with mental illness, addiction, isolation, or a lack of support.

That’s why I started a nonprofit, why part of my merchandise proceeds go to supporting charitable causes, and why I dream of creating a community-service tour that combines music with volunteering.

The Next Step

Now I’m ready to create and release my next music project. But making serious moves as an independent artist is expensive.

Recording, production, musicians, mixing, mastering, artwork, distribution, videos, and promotion all cost money. Independent artists are expected to compete with major-label releases, but without a major label writing the checks.

I’ve partnered with Edgewater Music Group to help me raise that budget, make the record professionally, and release it with a real plan. Major-label distribution is already lined up.

So I’m asking you, the people in my community, to become part of this project with me.

But the key thing is this. We have to reach the fundraising goal. If we don’t, I won’t have the resources to produce and release this music the way I need to.
