My Reason Why

I make music to give people an escape.

There’s a lot of noise in the world, plenty of reasons for people to feel divided. But music still has this incredible ability to cut through all of that. For a few minutes, it can take you somewhere else.

I think about the single mom who works all week taking care of her kids and finally gets one night out. I think about the dad or husband who breaks his back trying to provide for his family and just wants to lose himself in a cold beer and a good song for a while.

My job isn’t to tell those people what to think. It’s to make them smile, make them feel included, maybe give them some hope, and help drown out the noise of everyday life.

I also make music because I want my daughters to see that it’s never too late to chase something that matters to you. If I’m not willing to believe in myself and put myself out there, how can I expect them to be brave enough to pursue their own dreams?

I’m Justin “JD” Dominguez, frontman for JD and The Badlands, and this is our fundraising campaign.

Up Til Now

Music has been part of my life since I played my first show at the Reeves County Fair and Rodeo in Pecos, Texas, when I was seven years old. I’ve continued pursuing it throughout more than 20 years of working in public service, and today JD and The Badlands has grown into a high-energy road band built around honest country music for honest people.

Along the way, I’ve been named Entertainer of the Year and Male Country Vocalist of the Year by the West Texas Talent Association.

We’ve performed at events and venues including The Liberty in Roswell, the Blue Light Live in Lubbock, the Permian Basin Fair and Expo, Red Dirt Black Gold Festival, CavernFest, Smoking on the Pecos, Liberty Fest, Wild West Fest, and our own annual JD’s Mini Music Fest.

We’ve also had the opportunity to open for some amazing artists including Bart Crow, Stoney LaRue, Josh Abbott Band, Casey Donahew, Roger Creager, Josh Ward, Kolby Cooper, Dalton Domino, and Cody Hibbard, with additional support appearances alongside artists like Braxton Keith and Mike Ryan.

We’ve released three songs to digital streaming platforms, and last year we took “Pistolero” to radio.

Now we’re ready for the next chapter.

The Next Step

We have new music lined up, and we’ve partnered with Edgewater Music Group to help us produce and release it the right way. We also have major-label distribution lined up, giving this new record the opportunity to reach far beyond what we could accomplish on our own.

The Challenge

But recording and releasing music independently takes real resources. Recording, production, mixing, mastering, promotion, publicity, visuals, touring, and release expenses add up quickly. That’s why we’re asking for your support.
