My Why

I didn’t grow up in a musical family.

Music wasn’t a staple in my house — it was just the radio and a couple Chris LeDoux tapes in my dad’s truck. But I still remember sitting in that seat, quietly singing along to “Even Cowboys like a Little bit of Rock N Roll”, and hearing him say, “Good job” with a half grin on his face. That was my first musical memory.

Later on, I got hooked on songs that told a story. “This Cowboy’s Hat” was the first — I didn’t just want to hear it, I wanted to understand it. Every line. It just pulled me in.

But I didn’t even pick up a guitar until after high school.

It wasn’t until I was working construction that some buddies showed me a whole different side of country music — guys like Jason Boland and Randy Rogers, then songwriters like Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett and eventually Townes Van Zandt. It was Stuff you had to go find. And for me, it changed everything.

I bought a cheap guitar on the way home from work one day, and so it goes.

My name is Zach Aaron, and this is my fundraising campaign.

Up 'Til Now

From there, music just took over my life. I joined the Air Force, brought my guitar with me, and spent most of my free time playing, writing, and figuring it out the hard way. First time I got on stage, I was scared to death — but I kept showing up.

Since then, I’ve played in 49 states, toured The Netherlands a couple times— and shared stages with artists like Colter Wall, Cody Johnson, Robert Ellis, Mark Chesnutt, Jason Eady, and a lot of songwriters I grew up listening to.

I’ve played rooms like the Old Quarter, Anderson Fair, Rockwood Music Hall, Live from the Divide and festivals like Old Salt, Dripping Springs, and Cajun Catfish Festival. I’ve put out four studio albums so far, with my first live record coming later this year.

What's Next

I am and have always been completely independent as an artist.

I’ve worked various construction jobs, spent years in the oilfield, shod horses, made leather goods — whatever it took to keep the wheels rolling and continue making music. I paid for my first records that way, funded all my tours that way. That’s just how I’ve always done it.

I don't care whether it's my music career or shoeing horses that keeps the wolves away, I will never stop writing songs and pursuing music. It’s how I absorb the world and reflect it back in a creative way. It’s how I tell the truth about my life and the people around me. And right now, I’m writing the best songs I’ve ever written.

In order to make this next record the way I want it to be, I’ve partnered with Edgewater Music Group.

The Challenge

This will be a costly endeavor. Studio time, players, production, mixing, mastering, promotion — it adds up fast. And as an independent artist, I’ve always carried that load myself.
